Psalm for a July Shabbat – Janet Madden

Shabbat afternoon surprise:
the heavens open and a miracle happens.
Heavy rain beats on rooftop and windows.

Liquid manna
overflows gutters unable to contain or channel
the unexpected, the longed-for largesse of the One
Who Nourishes in open-handed abundance.

Encircled and expectant,
my desert soul swells,
refreshed, restored,
drenched by Divine force.

The extra soul expands,
inhaling the fragrance of mayim hayim,
flowing to the earth, to my life.
